Washing machines do the hardest mechanical work in the home: a heavy drum spinning at up to 1,600 rpm, a pump, a heater and a door lock, all running through water and detergent. Most call-outs come down to a handful of parts — the pump, drum bearings, door lock, carbon brushes and the heating element.
